Let's Connect at NGS 2022!

The National Genealogical Society Family History Conference is back in person this year! And y'all I am so ready to meet face-to-face! 

I've had the profound blessing to make many new friends and colleagues in the genealogy community over the last couple of years. We've had countless opportunities for online education, conferences, workshops, and institutes - all from the comfort of home. But there's something special about being together, in person, to meet for coffee or lunch, and to feel the buzz of excitement in a classroom. That's why I can't wait for this year's NGS 2022 Conference - Our American Mosaic in Sacramento, California!

This year, I'm presenting two lectures at NGS 2022 Conference on topics that I absolutely love: Greek and Virginia research! And if you're not able to make it in person, I also recorded these two talks for the On-Demand section of the conference. 

Chancery Records in Virginia

On Wednesday, 25 May at 10am, I’ll present “Your Ancestors on ‘Judge Judy’: Using Chancery Records in Virginia.” 

Virginia family history research is particularly rich in its availability of chancery records. In this presentation, we’ll learn what chancery court was, the information these records contain, and how to find them (hint: many are online!) Last, we’ll discover the amazing ways chancery can fill in your timelines and break down your brick walls! 

This course is listed under Eastern States and you'll find me Wednesday morning in room A2.

Greek Genealogy

On Thursday, 26 May at 9:30am, I’ll present “As Greek as Feta and Spanakopita: Finding Greek Roots in DNA and US Records.” 

I love researching Greek families and working with Greek DNA results. Many Greeks are surprised by their ethnicity results and get lost in how to interpret them. What’s more, if you’re unfamiliar with the Greek language or Greek naming conventions, you might start to research the wrong family! In this presentation, we’ll look at Greek identity through the lens of history. We’ll discuss Greek Orthodox Church records and how to use them in the US. Then we’ll explore naming conventions and how to use US records to track Greek American families.
